“Aha Moments” With DERMAFLASH Founder Dara Levy

Dara Levy is the ultimate beauty guru. She’s revolutionized the skin care industry not just once with her popular MedSpa in Chicago, but twice now with DERMAFLASH, her brilliant solution for dermaplaning at home.

We sat down with Dara to learn more about the exact “aha moment” that led to her creation of the skin exfoliation device that’s changing the face of the beauty industry. (You won’t believe where she was when it happened.) Plus, the beauty guru also gives us a glimpse at what’s to come in the future.

 Q: For a long time, dermaplaning was a spa procedure or insider secret of makeup artists and aestheticians. When did you have the “aha moment” that led you to making a safe and easy product for women to use at home?

A: I owned a high-end MedSpa in Chicago where we specialized in dermaplaning. I trademarked DERMAFLASH as the treatment name and my spa quickly became known for the treatment. We had a very loyal and steady clientele, and local and visiting celebs flocked to the spa for the treatment in order to get that camera-ready glowing skin. We sold over 6,000 treatments in five years. I was in the process of developing a skin care line, but could not decide what the hero ingredients would be. One day I was taking a shower and had the proverbial “aha moment.” I screamed at the top of my lungs, “Oh my God, it’s DERMAFLASH.” At that moment, I realized an at-home dermaplaning solution did not exist and immediately got to work to create it. Shortly after that I sold my spa to focus on bringing my idea for safely dermaplaning at home to life.

Q: You’ve been so busy building your brand, from national recognition in the Wall Street Journal, InStyle and Marie Claire magazines to TV appearances and skyrocketing on QVC. What has been the most rewarding moment?

A: That’s a tough one, there have truly been so many! Soon after we launched on August 30, 2016, I had a TSV (Today’s Special Value) on QVC and sold 30,000 units in less than 24 hours. I also recently shot my DERMAFLASH infomercial with Guthy-Renker, which will be launching early 2018. I am in constant pinch-myself mode.

Q: What would you say to a woman who has never tried DERMAFLASH or dermaplaning at home before?

A: Run, do not walk, and get yourself a DERMAFLASH. Glow on! Don’t be shy! DERMAFLASH literally changes your skin to give you a face glow that makes you feel more confident. Get ready for an “aha moment” of your own when you see how glorious your glowing skin looks instantly after just one use.

Q: How do you maintain your work/life balance a.k.a. when do you take your “ah-ohm” moments?

A: It’s a struggle. I go hard and work 24 hours a day. To me, it does not feel like work. The secret is that I truly love what I do and feel so incredibly blessed. The saying “love what you do and do what you love” is really my mantra. I try to escape with my husband every couple of months to catch my breath and disconnect to reconnect. And yes, I always bring my DERMAFLASH on vacation so I come back looking refreshed and radiant.

Q: Is there anything exciting we can expect from DERMAFLASH this year?

A: Oh, yeah! Are you ready for this? DERMAFLASH 2.0! My goal is to make dermaplaning at home a.k.a. getting glowing skin a reality for every woman, not just celebrities and early adapters. Our infomercial will also begin airing and we have a product innovation pipeline…so stay tuned.
